Another waterfall

At the beginning of the school year Hayden's teacher had a sign up sheet so parents could come volunteer for different activities at the school.  I already posed about Valentine's day.  The other event I chose was Earth day.  The description said we would do a nature hike and see the waterfall by the school.  I had no idea there was a waterfall back there so I signed up right away.

I did try to google earth it to see where it was but didn't see anything that showed water.  Just woods so I waited.

Earth day was a few weeks ago and  we took a nature walk around the trail with his class.  Here is a group photo.

Hayden led the way most of the trip.  Fairly shortly off in the distance the teacher pointed out the waterfall.  Apparently there is a natural spring and it falls down the huge hillside.  A passerby told us that there is also a camp site down there (and told us another way to get to it)

One day in May we did some yard work and cleaned the house all day and I was itching to do something fun.  So I took Mike and the kids and showed him the waterfall from the trail.  We worked our way down the hillside and walked the creek to it.

It was super muddy and you just sank in the water.  It felt so gross.

Amelia was walking the creek and cut her foot a rock.  She cried and was never the same again.  She whined or cried the entire time if we wouldn't carry/hold her.

We found the waterfall but in the short time since Earth day the leaves had grown and it was hard to see the whole waterfall at the bottom.  So we had to hike up the muddy hillside.

Here is the lower part of the falls.

And then here is the upper part.

We couldn't go any further than this.  The brush was just too thick.  Maybe in the fall.  I wanted to see where the water was coming from.

Here is Amelia still not happy :(

Hayden did an awesome job of climbing.  He really enjoys it.

He brought his rope and bungee cord again.  I asked him to hold it up for a picture so I can look back and remember how much he loved playing with that kind of stuff.

Well he swung it to show me and wacked himself in the nose and got a bloody nose.  Unhappy kid #2

The hike back up was hard since we were carrying Amelia and it steep and muddy.  But with a promised trip to sonic for pop and milkshakes everyone made it ;)
