This litte site has been neglected lately. Time to update. I was going thru our hawaii pictures so I guess i will start there. Our friends invited us to go to Hawaii with them. They have a time share and decided to visit the big island. We jumped on that idea. We arranged for the kids to spend the week with Mike's parents in utah. That was nice because it broke up the trip for us. We flew to utah spent a day or two and then flew to hawaii from there. Man they pack you in those planes like sardines to hawaii. I am used to southwest and having much more room!
At the last minute our friends couldn't come so it ended up just being Mike and myself.
We did at lot of fun things. We went to two very nice beaches with soft sand and blue water.
We hiked to a green sand beach.
We went to Volcano National park. We stopped and saw the current volcano, walked thru a lava tube, saw some petroglyphs, and a sea rock arch.
We drove back one morning and did a ten mile hike to see the lava. It was moving slowly to the ocean. It arrived in the ocean about a week later.
We stopped at a black sand beach. We also hiked to a more secluded one and saw incredible views.
We were the only people there for awhile.
We went to a luau. Food was good and the entertainment was fun.
We did a lot of snorkeling. We saw tons of fish, some eels, and also got to see a few sea turtles.
We visited a historical site.
We stopped to see some waterfalls. We saw three on the island.
We also took a boat tour along the coast to see tons of waterfalls. The ocean was very rough so the ride was crazy. Mike did not enjoy himself. I somehow didn't get sick on the boat. But I was sick every time we drove in the car. The roads are so windy and we kept going up and down the mountain. The Big Island is huge and all of these things we did were far apart. Anyways the ocean was rough because a hurricane was coming. We were the only boat out there all day!!!
As i mentioned a hurricane was coming the evening we were leaving. We were able to get out on time and flew back to Utah and spent a few days and picked up the kids.
It was nice to have a vacation without the kids.
