Another waterfall

At the beginning of the school year Hayden's teacher had a sign up sheet so parents could come volunteer for different activities at the school.  I already posed about Valentine's day.  The other event I chose was Earth day.  The description said we would do a nature hike and see the waterfall by the school.  I had no idea there was a waterfall back there so I signed up right away.

I did try to google earth it to see where it was but didn't see anything that showed water.  Just woods so I waited.

Earth day was a few weeks ago and  we took a nature walk around the trail with his class.  Here is a group photo.

Hayden led the way most of the trip.  Fairly shortly off in the distance the teacher pointed out the waterfall.  Apparently there is a natural spring and it falls down the huge hillside.  A passerby told us that there is also a camp site down there (and told us another way to get to it)

One day in May we did some yard work and cleaned the house all day and I was itching to do something fun.  So I took Mike and the kids and showed him the waterfall from the trail.  We worked our way down the hillside and walked the creek to it.

It was super muddy and you just sank in the water.  It felt so gross.

Amelia was walking the creek and cut her foot a rock.  She cried and was never the same again.  She whined or cried the entire time if we wouldn't carry/hold her.

We found the waterfall but in the short time since Earth day the leaves had grown and it was hard to see the whole waterfall at the bottom.  So we had to hike up the muddy hillside.

Here is the lower part of the falls.

And then here is the upper part.

We couldn't go any further than this.  The brush was just too thick.  Maybe in the fall.  I wanted to see where the water was coming from.

Here is Amelia still not happy :(

Hayden did an awesome job of climbing.  He really enjoys it.

He brought his rope and bungee cord again.  I asked him to hold it up for a picture so I can look back and remember how much he loved playing with that kind of stuff.

Well he swung it to show me and wacked himself in the nose and got a bloody nose.  Unhappy kid #2

The hike back up was hard since we were carrying Amelia and it steep and muddy.  But with a promised trip to sonic for pop and milkshakes everyone made it ;)

McConnell's Mill

When the weather started to get a little warmer we to took a short trip to McConnell's Mill.
Little did we know that the trails would be covered in a thick, thick layer of  ice.

So we did see some stuff, but cut the trip short and visited the outlet malls.

Columbus

had to coach a soccer tournament in Columbus Ohio before Easter.  It was over the  weekend.  Then we stayed a few days while Mike worked.

We did our mandatory stop to Hayden falls for hayden.  He got to take Bailey and the Smith Family this time.

Our team didn't move on to the finals so we had all day Sunday free.  The weather was so nice so we went to the Hocking Hills area to visit some spots we haven't been to yet.

First we went the natural rock bridge.  The kids hiked the whole way.

The bridge was actually pretty cool.  Here I am on top of it.

And it even had a waterfall behind it.  We named it Amelia falls because she was sad that she didn't have her own waterfall like Hayden.

We also decided to do the rock house hike.

This is a short hike to some a big cave with lots of tunnels that kids can climb in.

They both loved it.  Hayden kept leaving us to explore.

Amelia was stomping and singing frozen songs and turning things to ice.  She also sang lion king songs in there too.  It was so cute.

Hayden liked to squeeze thru the narrow slots.

We even saw a waterfall here also.  :)

It was a great day.

We were all exhausted but the kids were excited to switch hotels and have a swimming pool this time.  Mike wanted to watch golf so I nicely took the kids swimming.  Thankfully they had a hot tub so I could sit and soak.  And the kids love the shallow warm water.  So win win.

And after much coaxing I finally got hayden to start jumping in the pool.  now he loves it.

The next two days Mike worked and the kids and I swam, watched movies, and shopped.  We also met up with my cousins for dinner.

It was a fun little trip.
