Ok... so working in a kindergarten classroom is crazy. I come home with the best stories. Here are just a few:
A kid who can't pronounce C's and K's comes up to me at recess. They are playing house. He proceeds to tell me over and over again "I can't find the titties! I am looking for the titties" (kitties). I tried really hard not to laugh in his face. I sent him to the male teacher b/c I knew he would get a kick out of it. The male teacher told him "We all are looking for them" ;0
One kid always gets so frustrated. He just yells out "barnacles" when he is mad.
ONe kid James was telling me how Sophia is a crybaby. I told him that its not ok to say this but if he wants he can just think it in his head but not say anything. The next day at lunch James is screaming my name. I look at him. He points at Sophia (who is crying like always), and then points to his head like he is thinking... letting me know that Sophia is being a crybaby. Too funny.
One day at recess one of the boys was resting on the bench, laying on his belly. Adam walks by him, slowly walks back and stands next to him. Then he just lightly "cups" his butt. Then walks away. Mike and I can't decide if Adam is worse for doing this, or the boy who's butt was cupped b/c he never even moved or seemed to care.
4 kids have already popped their pants. Ok so this isn't too rare at kindergarten. But somehow they manage to get poop all over the bathroom. I still have one kids voice in my head just singing I had an accident!
Another problem boy won't be quiet in the hall. He was pretending to be a robot and talking like one. The teacher told him to put his bubble in his mouth (that how they stay quiet) This worked for a minute. Then in his robot voice he said. bubbles have water...robots can't have water. Then kept yelling Malfunction!
Another boy was eating his lunch and was just so excited. He looked at me and said "Miss Brooke, this sandwich is bomb!"
There was a sub one day...Miss Ball (an overweight woman). Vincent (who has to have apserger's) goes up to her and goes "Oh, I get it. Your name is Miss Ball b/c your stomach is like a big ball!" Then keeps touching it and asking her how many babies she has in there. Even after she told him there was no baby he kept touching her, saying ball (laughing) and asking about babies!
I also have sweet stories:
On Veteran's Day a soldier shared a story about a poor girl he used to see all of the time in Iraq. How she had no toys, shoes, etc. A boy named Will drew a bunch of pictures and sold them at his church. He got $50! He brought it to school the next day and asked to give it to the little girl that soldier talked about. He did this all on his own. His mom had no idea!
One day during soccer season we had a late game and I got rained on. The next day I was exhausted and slept in. I got up, put pants on and left. Didn't fix my hair or anything. When I got to the school I apologized to the teacher and explained why I looked so bad. Vincent came up and said "Miss Brooke, I think you look beautiful today!" It made my day.
There is now a sign up sheet for which kid gets to sit by me at lunch! The boys were fighting over it.
